It is remarkable, but what is even worse is that 60 minutes is probably no 
worse than the rest of TV - in other words, don't believe what you see on TV!

My understanding was that VW/Audi thought that a lawsuit would bring additional 
publicity and keep the story alive for 5 to 10 more years than would otherwise 
be the case.  Its interesting to compare this case to the one were NBC used 
model rocket engines to ignite fuel spilled from a T-Boned pick-up truck.  As I 
recall, GM quite successfully sued NBC and there was a good bit of publicity.
