Lots of those 4000 starters come in with their attaching bolts loose, in
which case tighten them & see how it goes. Another pattern seems to be
problems with the positive battery cable which is routed next to the
exhaust pipe on its way to the starter. Sometimes the insulation is fried
off the cable causing shorts. Also, the ground cable has to be secure to
the battery box (10 mm bolt) & to the block (19 m bolt). If the car's ever
had a clutch replaced, most of these things had to be removed. Hopefully
they were tightened again.
