Loose driveline

I feel some looseness in the driveline of my 4000 SQ. When
taking off a bit harder, it feels like as if the springs in the
clutch (the ones which are in the clutch plate, and give the
torsional complience) were too week, and having compressed
they sit up hard with a thump. I realize that it is probably
not the clutch, and it sounds as if the noise is coming from the
rear left. I had the car safety checked recently, the shop
was no quattro specialist, but they were pretty good at finding the
loose tie rod ends that I later replaced. I have not checked the strut
bearings, and the trapezoidal arm bushings look visually O.K.
Is there a test for the bushings, barring straight replacement?
Any other thoughts?
