Lousy radio reception...



My '84 4000SQ suffered from poor radio reception a while ago.  I
removed the (stock) radio, but it seemed to be OK.  I eventually found
that the antenna wire was broken about 4" down from the radio
connector.  If you take the connector off *beware* that the center
lead of that coaxial cable is "hair thin"; it's a single strand of
wire and it will break very easily.  I don't know why they wouldn't
use some reasonable size coax, but they don't.  Cutting back the cable
and re-soldering the connector fixed the poor reception problem.  I'm
glad I didn't have to deal with threading a new cable through the car
body.
