  My odometer had the same problem.  I fixed it myself for $0.00.
You need to remove the instrument panel from the car to get to the
odometer.  Inside of the odometer there is a metal shaft that the 
odometer gears ride on.  The ends of the shaft just ride on the inside
of a plastic housing.  On mine, somehow the shaft slid out of its
housing, thereby not allowing the gears to mesh.  I just pushed the 
shaft back into the housing and reassembled.

  I can give you more details if necessary.
