While this would solve the immediate problem, why have 200K of images scoot
across the network when 30K thumbnails will do? Even at the full bandwidth of
a T1 or a 56KB line, why waste the bandwidth on the first page? One would
expect the images directory to contain many inlined gifs, so of course you
could turn off image-loading before going in if you're on a limited line.
If I want to show the page to a friend, I don't want to wait 15 minutes to
pull the pictures down to show the page in it's full glory. Seriously, common
practice is to keep the images on the first page small, and allow the user to
grab full size ones if they desire. Usually, the thumbnails are anchored so
clicking on the image will begin a download of the whole thing.
