I have installed 2 Borla mufflers on my '83 Ur replacing 
both stock mufflers.  The first muffler is actually a resonator
(so i was told by a dealer) and the person at Borla said that
their muffler should perform OK as a resonator.
It was a bit of a fiddle getting the mufflers in, requiring
several cut-fit-weld operations to get it aligned properly.
Since the whole system is now SS, I won't have to mess with the 
exhaust system again! Horay!  So far, I haven't had any
problems with them and they sound OK too.
