Redline MTL in Audi 4000 transmission?
I've used MTL in my 87 5000S for the past 2 years. It helps in the cold
weather to get 1st gear(for me). Shifting when tranny is warmed up seems to
be a little smoother, but not that noticeable. My main reason to switch to
MTL was to help me get 1st gear when engine is just warming up. Hated
getting stuck at intersections with no 1st gear!
my $0.02
When I first got my '83 UrQ ('bout four years ago), it was just plain
onery to get into first (read: "damn f****r outright refused except
on occasion, just to keep me hoping). I would usually have to get into
second (easy shift), then almost always an easy shift straight up into
first. First on the fly? FORGET IT.
I recently had a motor mount replaced. Second got damn near impossible
to select, and first flat out refused, short of a *lot* of muscle. Went
back and had mechanic adjust shift linkage "by just a tad". All gears
now "Germanly" easy to get into - I can even double-clutch-snick right
into first on the fly! Even my Mitsubishi wasn't particularly coopera-
tive about that move, 'though my Lotus never complained.
Cold of course just makes it all worse.
