Interesting, the dealer advise it was a "lifetime" part.  I find it hard to
believe.  Given the risks 
involved, e.g., possible damage to the injection system (?) or being
stranded somewhere, which
BTW happened to me with my Jetta GLI due to a clogged fuel filter, I'd plan
on changing the
filter a some reasonable interval.
