 This might be a stupid ques., but when you say fuel filter, do you mean the
 small plastic with paper element just past the fuel tank??  I don't know
 what year your car is, but my 87 4000S 1.8L, has the aforementioned filter
 then the big aluminum tank-type further towards the engine.  I am told by
 Haynes (have to check my Bentley) that this is actually a "fuel accumulator"
 and not a filter.  Does this have to be serviced as well??  I am not having
 any problems now, but my motto is: If it's not broke, fix it anyhow!!
