Re: CD player ...speakers

I'm not sure if the front speakers you are talking about in the coupe quattro
are those horrible front dash speakers I used to have in my 86 4000CS Q, but
if they are there is a solution. This isn't necessarily a cheap solution,
but damn it sounds great. When I added new speakers in the car about 6 years
ago it got loaded it up with ADS 300i's in the rear and ADS 320i's in the
front. The installer was wondering where in the door (where the 5.5"
speakers went ) he was going to put the tweeter when I mentioned it was too
bad that they couldn't do anything with the stupid dash speaker area. The
installer flashed on a great idea, why not pull out the old speaker and put
the tweeter in that spot? It took some custom plastic and vinyl work, but
the tweeters look and sound great. The tweeter base is at dash level and the
surround is a vinyl that matches the rest of the vinyl in the car, nobody has
ever realized that they aren't factory. All in all, the speaker set up
sounds incredible. Another slick thing the installer did was to use the
trunk well on the passenger side of the car to mount a cd changer with a
false floor and the crossover and power amp below it in the well. I have lost
a little trunk space, but it was an odd area which I never used much and I
have not lost any head room which I would have lost if it was installed under
the the rear deck. My tool roll fits snugly behind the cd changer and fuel
additives, snow shovel, jumper cables and what not, all seem to fit around
the weenie spare tire.
