Timely advice. Unfortunately, that time is 6 months too late.
Last summer (you remember, the season when Quattros are only good
for their superb handling), I put in a set of the aforementioned
Koni adjustables in my '89 100Q. Here's the scoop so far.
First, SET THEM TIGHTER THAN STOCK. I left them on the first "stock"
setting, and they are too soft. Since they adjust on the top, they're
a pain to do once they are in the car. Any tips? I really would like
them stiffer. Maybe I should just pop them, replace the bushings,
then reinstall them stiffer.
That said, I like them. Although a little too soft, they are very
predictable, and handle well all the way through their travel. No
surprises at all.
I wanted the Boge Turbo Gas (they were awesome on my old Golf), but
was told they "don't fit 100Q's". Well, they do with the drilling
of an extra hole in the bottom mount. Any shop should be able to
handle this. The Pro Gas will, too. Bilstein doesn't seem to touch
most Audis.
