And on checking, you're right and I'm wrong. I had, I suppose, confused the
sudden absence of catalysator advertising with their demise.
I don't buy new cars that often.
On another subject, my "UK Quattro Owners Club" membership pack arrived this
morning. Nice glossy A5-format club magazine (which I gather is supposedly
six-monthly but drifts to annual), a windshield sticker, a membership card,
back copies of the one-page monthly news sheet, a copy of the rules and
consitution, and a four-page glossy of "custom leisurewear" with a choice of
embroidered and printed motifs.
There are half a dozen spares stockists offering special quattro stocks -
should I post the fax numbers for anyone interested in, e.g., Euro lights?
There are a few interesting facts and figures in the magazine - 27 ur-quattros
attended the Annual General Meeting. The club had 215 members at the end of
the last financial year, up from 130 the year before. Events seem to be
measured in terms of the number of ur-quattros turning out - 8 for a run over
Exmoor, 18 at Devil's Bridge (videoed), 19 at the Whitbread Hop Farm, 6 at a
health club near Heathrow, etc.
One column is entitled "This Edition's Silly Prices" and lists an ur-quattro
Sport bonnet (hood) at GBP6442.
There's a nice article on exhaust manifold removal, too.
It looks like membership might well be worth the GBP25 a year. I wish they
were on the Net.
Should I scribble a few words about this group and submit them for the next
Newsletter? You never know - they might come aboard in droves.
