1) I'm in the midst of removing my struts, control arms, tie rod
ends, etc. and have been reading ahead in Bentley. They're
asking for a "D6" compound threadlocking agent to be applied
carefully on the splined shafts of the stub axles, prior to
installing the hub assembly.
I imagine that this crosses to a Loctite or equivalent product.
I doubt that it is Loctite Blue (medium bond), but is it Red
or Green or ???
2) In removing one of the rear hubs, I managed to munge the
seal on the wheel bearing. I now know why mechanics always
"find" more work to be done on your vehicle... (ooops - it
broke, he/she's gonna need a new one)
I recently remember a thread where someone went to the trouble
of sourcing a replacement at a bearing supply house. I would
appreciate hearing more about this if someone would care to
clue me in.
3) I found that an "O2 sensor replacement tool" also works
reasonably well as the Audi tool used to remove the top nut on
the struts. A 7mm hex key, preferrably L-shaped, is also required.
The 7mm key is a _bitch_ to find - now I've got 2!!! I'm going
to modify the O2 tool (22 mm socket w/ side removed) a bit to
get a better turn angle. 2 clicks on a ratchet per cycle takes
a long time!!!
so far, no big surprises...
thanks again, all!
