If you can, take the cover off of the relay and look at the contacts
and circuit board. My '84 4000sq died last year, and I finally traced
the problem to a cracked solder joint on the little circuit board
inside of the relay box (where the relay frame is soldered into the
board, since the frame was one of the contacts). No problems since
resoldering the joint. The plastic cover just pops off with some
gentle prying using a jeweler's screwdriver. Cracked solder joints
can lead to all sorts of intermittent problems...
