Re: Brake warning light, wipers, Delco s

The wipers are the multifunction switch (whole assembly w/ 4 stalks behind
steering wheel). A thorough dousing with brakleen may help, otherwise the
   switch is gone.

If the contacts are exposed (as on my '83 UrQ), try spending $.89 on a
"relay/contact burnishing tool" (basically like an "emory board" used for
filing fingernails, except much smaller (1/8" wide or so, 1-2" long, and
much *MUCH* finer grit, like jeweler's rouge), and clean the exposed
contacts. For NO (Normally Open) contacts, slip the burnisher into the
switch, close the switch, pull the burnisher straight out (i.e., you're
"filing" the contacts flat, smooth, and clean, so try to keep everything
parallel/etc., don't "round off" the edges of the contacts). Repeat half
a dozen times or so. For NC (Normally Closed) contacts, pry the contacts
apart ("actuate the switch"), insert burnisher, close contacts, pull the
burnisher through. Repeat as above. Fixed my "one-pass/washer" cycle as
good as new.

All things considered, I think I prefer "sealed" switches as then the
atmoshpere can't corrode the contacts (ever lived in L.A.??? you're
breathing dilute acid...among other things), but open contacts are a
lot easier to clean (and inspect to see if they are pitted).
