Re: Brake warning light, wipers, Delco s

Well, lets see here...The brake warning light (red triangle accompanied by
beeping) is an indication of low hydraulic system pressure (hydraulic
system pump, accumulator, brake servo or combo), low hydraulic system fluid
level, or low brake fluid level. You might want to check the hydraulic
system fluid level with the engine idling in case the system is bleeding
back into the reservoir at rest. If the levels are ok, a large % of the
archives is devoted to this subject.

The wipers are the multifunction switch (whole assembly w/ 4 stalks behind
steering wheel). A thorough dousing with brakleen may help, otherwise the
switch is gone.

For the ac compressor to be inactive at about freezing ambient temps is
normal (the volume of R12 in the system is reduced by the colder temps &
the low pressure switch is deactivated to protect the compressor). If the
flow of air from the heater smells like antifreeze (some people equate it
with maple syrup) you need a heater core. If there is no smell, the spring
on the recirculation door is probably broken.

To see the spring (or lack thereof) lie on your back with a light and look
up behind the glove box from the passenger footwell area. If you can see a
vacuum servo with hose attached, the spring is missing. If the door is
shut, you're SOL & should start shopping for an S4 immediately.

Hope this helps...ned bennett
