Yes, VAG seems to overlap the model years a bit. I still remember (vaguely)
my Dad's 63 Beetle that he said had a '62 engine in it. Very impressive
stuff for a Kindergardener. Closer to the present, my '86 5000 has the
older style auto climate control, but I think Bentley indicates that the '86
was the first model year with the newer style (i.e., with diagnostics and
more manual control of the fan). I guess its just a question of finishing
up the old parts inventory. Maybe this will be a thing of the past as most
car makers have gone to just in time inventory systems, right?
