I have pulled the regulator from my "spare" '84 and now see how the whole
process seems to work. The brushes are integrated into the regulator for
a convenient (for an Audi) swap. I will install it tomorrow and see what
happens. If it works, I may install new brushes in it for good measure.
How long are they supposed to be? Where might I obtain the brushes for a
next to nothing alternator revival?
Should the brushes and other surfaces be cleaned with anything like
contact/brake cleaner or should I just leave them alone?
You know, If it ain't broke, fix it, but don't spend too much on it...
