I'm not sure why the 3.6 is so different, but as for the V6, that's
only a 1% change.  As for the S4, the test I have in auto, motor, und
sport shows 227 HP, the same as here.  The main factor in HP
discrepancies recently is the elimination of "Volllastanreicherung" or
full-power mixture enrichment.  Under fully-loaded conditions, a richer
mixture allowed a few extra HP to be produced without burning-up the
engine's valves, but also increased emissions.  This was quickly siezed
by the "greens" as a reason to introduce a speed limit on the
Autobahnen, so Vollastanreicherung started disappearing in 1991-2.
Therefore--all other things being equal--newer tests will usually show
a lower HP number

My point was that Audis keep have essentially the same HP numbers when
comparing the US to Germany, while Japanese cars suffer radical
decreases when moved to Germany.
