Has anyone heard of this?

I recently came by a Bose stereo that was locked up by the code.  I know
what you're thinking...trust me, it isn't like that.  Anyway, I gave it to
an impoverished radio station engineer that fixes radios and such on the
side & asked him to see what he could do with it.

He made inquiries on the internet (where else) and found that he could
access the radio's inner workings by connecting it somehow to the serial
port on his pc.  The radio now works and retains its original code.  I was
amazed to say the least.

Does anyone know about this??
