Feul Line

After having my fuel pump die out in front of my house, I looked under
my 87 4000CS Q and decided to change the filters also, since I have
only owned the car about a year, and dont think they were ever changed.
The whole filter assembly, Accumulator, etc was badly rusted and
wouldnt come loose after WD40, or rustbuster stuff. After getting
majorly annoyed I took the whole thing off by cutting off the fuel line
where it enters the filter (canister). dumb move I know, but was no
other choice.
After changing everything Two filters, Accumulator, mounts, pump, the
line was the next item. Bought it new at dealer for $70.
Getting it back in was the problem, I mean routing it along the
undercarriage. After a few months dont like the way its looking, too
close to exhaust.
Anybody know about using a rubber, plastic or braided stainless steel
fuel line. Would this be feasible? It would be allot easier to route and
maintain.
The pump still makes the same noise as before, the repacement wasnt
original bosch, could that be it?
THANKS for any help....
