The short answer - check the VW archives at ftp.lap.umd.edu.
The long answer:

- open hood
- look for a black box with a little white button behind the steering
  wheel (near the coolant overflow reservoir)
- press the button with something hard & thin (like a nail) until 
  you hear a positive click
- the light's out
