The VW handles get quirky after a while.  Remove the outside handle
and clean liberally with WD40, then grease everything up with a
good all purpose grease.  Do the same to the lock mechanism in the
door.  This needs to be done every so often on all the handles or
they freeze up.  In some cases, they break and need to be replaced.
A handle from Rapid Parts is around $20 (for a rear).
