Re: Central Hydraulic Pump - ...
Looked into rebuilts on the chp- since the Bentley shows how to...
Unfortunately (did mine last year) no one I could find had the rebuild kits
available, but assured me that if I could find one, any competent rebuild
shop could do the work, no rocket science these pumps!! Couldn't find any
aftermarket supplier of these so I conned the dealer into cutting me some
slack on the price (still hurt at 200 some$). The replacement is fairly
easy, make sure you get all the new compression washers for the pump and use
that torque wrench! The only suggestion I have is to make sure you get the
low-pressure side rack line at the same time, mine went out about week after
install of the new pump, thank goodness I was driving at the time and was
able to cut the belt off untill I could replace the line, could have been
another fortune. The dealer told me this is a common problem, and they
recommend doing it at the same time as the pump (he had the part in stock),
about another 100.
