Germans and airbags

I have a general question. Do the German auto builders put airbags in the
cars they sell in Germany/Europe? My understanding is that they aren't
too fond of them, and would rather put seat belt pre-tensioners in, build a
better frame, and ABS. One reason, that I have heard for no airbags, is
that most people in Europe use seatbelts, upwards of 90%. I would guess
the number for Americans is around 60% or so.

Is this true, or am I totally off base, and should be tagged by the first
baseman? (whoops, I am safe, they are on strike.)

Thanks.
