Most of the discussion has been on the 5k turbos, not the ur-Q. The newer
cars have a digital display of the boost available with the trip computer
(I usually keep this display active when I drive the '88). The computer
on these cars actually has the ability to affect when the wastegate opens
(unlike the '83 TQC). I don't recall ever seeing the '88 5kCSQ indicate
more than 1.3 bar on the display. The '83 ur-Q has an analog gauge, which
is a little harder to discern, but like you I would estimate that the gauge
indicates closer to 2 bar than 1.3 at max boost.
My ur-Q is a stock, US spec vehicle as well so I can't say too much about
what does or doesn't work. Ned Ritchie claims as much of an improvement
for the TQC has he does for the 5kCST though, so perhaps we can have even
higher boost ... YAAAAHOOOOOOO!
