My 1989 80Q does the same thing....has done it ever since I've had the car.
(30K now). I looked into it a little, but I was not in the mood for 
taking apart the steering hydraulics. I think the noise occurs when the
hydraulic pump is being loaded down. Let me know if you get it fixed.
