Re: RD confiscation/destruction?

Ok, First Hand Man, (the gentleman that requested first hand experience with
having a RD confiscated)

I have had a RD confiscated and recieved a fine, here in the wonderful
province of Ontario, Canada. On a deserted country road at least 30 miles
from any major city, late on a Friday night, in perfect weather conditions,
I encountered a Provintial Police Officer coming in the other direction,
around a bend. The moment he saw me (or I saw him) he turned on his lights.
I figured he wanted my radar detector, so I just pulled over, no point in
making things worst.. I was not speeding at the time, because I had already
slowed down from well in excess of the speed limit, moments before, because
the RD had beeped a few times. Usually when this happens I imediately slow
down and unplug the RD, I didn't unplug it this time because I was out in
the middle of bloody no where!, what the heck would a cop be looking for RDs
for????.
Since I drive RD protected almost all the time, and I know coppers have
detector detectors, and radar detectors are illegal in Ontario, I had
figured eventually I would get caught, so I had a plan. I slipped my
expensive Bell RD under the passenger seat and got out some cheap piece of
crap I bought at JC Penny's or something for $40. This thing was great at
detecting auto-door openers and likely leaked like a holey bucket. The
officer ask for my usual and for the RD AND for the cord. The bastard then
took me back to his car and demonstrated how the crappy RD set off his RDD
device. (boy was I relieved when it did) I got a fine for CDN$130, and no
points (very important for insurance purposes). I didn't use my RD again
until I got home and got another crappy detector to carry with me. So, in
all the incident cost me about $180, which may seem high, but if I had
gotten a speeding ticket for the speed I had been going it would have been
over $200, plus my insurance rates would go up, plus I would have to be
careful not to get another ticket and then have to explan why I should keep
my licence. The real ironny here is that I drive in gross excess of the
speed limit almost all the time, and I haven't been caught in FIVE years
(and THAT time was due to a completely boneheaded move on my part).
Anyway, that's a first hand story for you, sorry it wasn't to exciting.
