Perhaps your coolant level was soooooooooooo low that the coolant temp
switch in the radiator for the fan wasn't being heated by the coolant.
I've seen a similar problem with Supajus. The coolant level was so low
that the coolant temp sender for the dash guage wasn't being heated by
the coolant (or lack therof) and therefore didn't indicate an overtemp
condition. Substantial failure resulted that could have been avoided if
the sending unit were in the head or block.....pretty dumb
engineering.....
