Fuel pump, continued
Dropped by the dealer and the service guy said the sound was very faint. Then I
said that the noise was coming from outside the car so he listened and heard it
there. He said that several other people complained about the same problem and
that one person said that switching to Sunoco or Gulf solved his problem. He
mentioned that they've found a white residue from the gas that winds up in the
tank and the pump.
I asked him about the list of gasolines that Audi was supposed to provide but
he told me that they never did this. He said that they had installed one of the
new-type pumps and that they were still installing the older-style pumps in
most cars (sounds like a nice business).
He will get back to me on a price. I mentioned that Audi of America had offered
assistance, so he will get in touch with them too. Meanwhile, I'll switch to
Sunoco (from EXXON) to see if that makes a difference.
I also had a look at the 90, 100 and A6 wagon. I got in the 90 and originally
thought that it was the 100 as it felt more spacious than the earlier 90's. All
three of the cars had very nice interiors and felt quite comfortable. The only
minor problem area that I noticed was the glove compartments in that they took
a fairly hard push to close.
