After considerable seat time in the '84 4000Q and the '85-87 4000Q ( 2
1/2 seasons) I would have to say that the '84 is definitely superior on
the auto-x course Vs the later cars. Same HP/torque, lower gearing and
lighter weight do the trick. You really should try again with only the
rear diff locked and proper auto-x tires and alignment and pressures.
You'd be amazed at how that dreaded understeer can be all but totally
dialed-out.
