My guess on the flat spot is that the audi engineers had to meet a certain
level of tameness on what is essentially a race car, so that center muffler
prolly was put in to address the resonance at that rpm range (neat way to see
what muffler is affecting what rpm address) in deference to the loss in
performance.....  it surprises me that the nearly new one had the problem,
otherwise I might have posed that the heat cycles were creating water at that
muffler and maybe disintegrating it which decreased its flow....  And since
that happened to yours and a few others that is my guess anyway.......
Your nearly new one might just have shown how early this happens....   Wonder
if that prollum exists across the pond on the autobahn (theres an argument
for higher speed limits)
