5k Sticking temp gauge/wheels

Hi folks:

My search for another Audi is ending.  I found a very clean '88 5k,5-spd, 86k,
non-turbo :( for $4600.  Only problem I could find is the temp gauge is 
inoperative.  Owner claims that it worked intermittently on a trip just back 
from NJ to Georgia. I assume the first thing to check is the temperature 
sender.  Where is it in this car?  Also, I noticed that the climate control 
will put out cold air from the dash vents but when I tried the heat, it only 
came from the defroster vent!?  Although I couldn't find any power steering 
leaks, I saw a lot of wet gunk on top of the tranny which suspiciously looks 
like the leaky rack I have in my '87 5kcst.

The '88 5k has skinny 185/70R14 all-season tires, I'm looking to either:
a) upgrade them to a 15x7 wheel, 205/60R15 stickier rubber   OR
b) upgrade my '87 5kcst to 16x7.5, swap the 15x6 turbo wheels to the '88 5k.

Will the '87 turbo wheels fit on the '88?  I didn't notice if the 14" are 
4-lug or 5-lug wheels?  Same offset?
Any recommendations for wheels which match the car (I hate chrome)?
Anyone have a set of 15" 5KT wheels for sale?
