Hi Everybody,

I joined this forum just yesterday. I have already gotten to read a lot
about the Audis. Having a forum like this is a great idea. I would like to
thank the owner and the subscribers for sharing so much useful info.

The note that caught my attention was about the stranded Audi 5000S wagon
on the freeway. I have a 86 5000S wagon myself and have been very happy so
far with it but have known a good friend who had a ton of problems with his
85 5000S. Last week a gentleman who was interested in buying my Audi
dropped by to see my car. He already had a 85 5000S wagon (his second Audi
) and wanted one more. His car had over 210,000 miles on it and he had put
in over 80,000 miles himself in the last couple of years. I was really
curious as to how he had managed to put that many miles in a couple of
years. He told me, in a rather matter of fact manner, that he had made over
half a dozen trips to California in that car. I was very surprised to say
the least and made me look at my car with added respect.

I have the following problems with my car and was wondering if someone
could offer some thoughts on that:
1. the steering fluid leaks a bit ( I need to fill it every month or so )-
My mechanic assures me that it can go along that way till the leak becomes
real bad. I was wondering if there is anything that I could to recify this
problem without having to replace the ratchet and pinion steering.

2. Sometime after last fall my a/c seems to have conked out. My mechanic
says that the compressor needs to be replaced and qouted a king's ransom to
fix that. Wonder if I can get a used compressor/rebuild mine. If I do get
one is it easy to replace - I do not have much experience with working on
cars.

3. One of the rear door's power window does not work - since the relay is
broken. Got an estimate of $80 for that - Can I get a used part from
somewhere.
