'87 5kcst wastegate spring

I haven't seen any reports on the stiffer wastegate spring mod provided by our
own Charlie Smith. Now I can tell people what the CS on my car stands for :).
I installed the stiffer spring and it is a lot stiffer and sturdier than the
stock spring but I suspect my spring was worn out with age (127k) since max
boost was 1.2-1.3 if I really revved it hard. I now get to 1.5 easily before
the computer cuts out the fuel pump. This has a similar effect to a
rev-limiter, you lose power for 1/2 second until boost drops below 1.5. I
think I'll leave this alone as protection against overboosting. If I floor it
in 1st, the car now experiences torque-steer which was unknown before, I wish
it was a Quattro.

Anyway, this spring works and was well worth the $15 I paid. The car comes on
boost at lower rpm and in any gear. I was going up a long sweeping hill on Rt
78 which I normally cruise in 4th gear around 70. I did it today in 5th at 75
and was able to pass someone easily without downshifting. The boost just
built steadily as I applied my lead foot.

Anyone else who installed the spring and grounded the fuel pump relay, how
tough was it to figure out even with Charlie's instructions
