Boy, that's dumb.

But, then again, two weeks ago I went to the "Corvette Dream and Drive" expo
on Long Island (at the Colliseum), and they had their course layed out so that
cars were passing light posts at 60-70 MPH less that 10 feet away. Also, the
tightest section of the course (a series of slalom-like tosses) had the sharpest
turn approx 5 feet from opposite direction traffic. And cars headed straight
for the spectator/loading/unloading area at top speed, with novice drivers
encouraged to "try out the performance" behind the wheel. When I mentioned the
potential problems to the show director, I got a "this isn't SCCA, we have
a nearly perfect safety record -- we know what we are doing" response.

(BTW: This little "expo" was a lot of fun; I went on the morning of the first
day, when there was a light drizzle, and it was interesting to compare the
lack of Corvette performance in the wet with Quattro. I *hate* Traction
Control! But the Goodyear run-flat tires are way cool -- I drove a Corvette
with a completely flat driver's front tire, and it handled nearly as well
as a proper tire!)
