5k Alternator: Problem solved

A quick thank you to all who replied to my alternator question. After reviewing
all responses and doing a little deductive reasoning, I chose to replace the
voltage regulator (the fact that it was the cheapest and easiest choice didn't
weigh in my decision at all <gggg>). I pulled the old one and the brushes were
just barely at the minimum. Put the new one in and problem solved. The whole
process took about 20 minutes.

For me, this highlights the benefits of being involved with an active group. 
The amount of time, frustration and money I saved reinforces the value of
the quattro list.
