I hope not..... :-)  I have an 89 100 Sedan and an 89 100 Wagon
93k and 96k respectively.  No tranny problems with either.  The wagon had
been dealer serviced before I bought it and the Recall sticker was there
for the synthetic fluid.  At 60k on the sedan I heard about the recall
from the Audi Group :-) and had the fluid replaced with synthetic, had it
done again on the sedan at 75k,  They recommend you change it every 15k.

So far no problems (saying this with my fingers crossed :-))
