Re: fuel consumption

Let me stir up the pot a little bit more on the mileage debate.
(Will somebody else please be my guest in converting the following into l/km
etc., for the benefit of those lucky enough not to have been schoooled in the
"English" system of measurement which I guess even the English don't use
anymore.)

I checked the original EPA rating for my '89 100Q and it is listed as 18 city,
24 highway miles per US gallon or a combined figure of 21. Before you all go
bashing the government stats, I'll say that in my experience these figures are
usually close to the mark. Well, I have been averaging 21 mpg so I thought
that my performance was acceptable until a few of you came along and reported
(or posited) mileage of 25-30+ mpg for the same (?) vehicle. Keep in mind this
is a 100 Quattro so it weights maybe 3400 lbs. The engine is the 2.3 l
non-turbo in-line five cylinder, manual transmission.

Okay, those with 5000 or 100 2.3 quattros, what is your true mileage? Am I
okay, or should I look into a new oxygen sensor? (It passed emissions testing
in June, doesn't that point to a sensor that's doing its job properly?)
