Another datapoint. Not scientifically verified. Only using gas station
pumps and the 'gas gauge'.

        87 5000s        2.2l inline 5   5 speed
        curb(kerb) weight of 2850lbs. (unladen)

        18mpgish in city,  around 30mpg on long highway drives.

        K&N air filter. Synthetic lube. (various brands-whatever is less $$)
