5000 TQ brakes

I'm about to embark on a project to replace the rear brake rotors and pads
on my 1987 5000 turbo quattro sedan. I recall reading something here that
I don't see any reference to in the Bentley manuals...

Is there something about having to push the caliper pistons in with a special
tool before fitting new pads??? I haven't taken anything apart yet, and am
wondering if I'm going to be able to complete this brake job without some
special Audi-tool...

Any pointers or comments from anyone???
