5000 TQ brakes & alternator
First, thank you to those who replied to my questions regarding
working on the rear brakes on my 1987 5000 turbo quattro. It seems I
do need a large hex key (12MM) to rotate/screw-in the brake caliper piston
while also pushing the piston back into the caliper... I'm going to hunt
down an appropriate hex key today (I hope!).
Next question is regarding alternators and replacing the brushes...
I have a 90 AMP alternator in my car. It's has a BOSCH tag on it, and a
couple of numbers that look like part numbers. The two numbers I have
written down are as follows:
0 120 469 727 768
and
034 903 015 M
And yes, the first number has the "768" way off to the right. Maybe it's
something else (date code?)...
Do I remember discussions here saying that brushes can be changed separately
from the voltage regulator, except you must solder them in... The local
Bosch parts dealer/repair shop wants to sell complete regulator assembly, but
why should I replace it when only brushes are worn???
Does someone have numbers for brushes only, or should I dish out for the
whole assembly. Since I have the car up for brake work, I might as well
do some other jobs at the same time!!!
Again, thanks for any comments/replies.
