Buying Audis

For those interested in V8's:
        The local dealership here in Fargo, ND had a 1990 or '91 Audi V8 for
sale.  12,9.  And here's the best part about it, _17K miles on it_.  No,
they sold it and I don't know what was wrong with it, but they originally
wanted around 18 for it.  Anyways, just shop around, good cheap Audis are
out there.  

        Tomorrow, I'm going back there to look at a Audi.  5000 with single
headlamps (1986ish - 1988 or 89 ?)  Turbo, FWD, California car.  Beautiful
condition outside, not sure of miles inside.  Only problem is that it's an
automatic.  Oh well, we'll see what kind of deal I can get.

        Question:  All of the Audi's that I have seen from mid 80's with an
Automatic tranny is yellowish where the gear display is (you know, PRND21).
Is this common for Audis, any way to clear this up without replacing it?  Or
is it supposed to be this way?  Just curious.
