Re: Torn CV joint boot.
"My outer left CV joint boot is torn. A new one is coming any day now.
In the mean time the joint started to make a rubbing noise this
morning. It has probably lost all of it's grease. Can I squirt in any
grease temporarily until the new boot comes? I need the car daily and
I don't want to damage the CV joint. I replaced it about 30K miles ago."
Don, My feeling is that something is better than nothing in this case. I'd
throw in a high temp grease, something fairly heavy; rather than burn up the
joint from heat/friction. Maybe a wheel bearing grease. Be sure to
disassemble that joint *completely* and check for wear, cracks in the cage
and ball tracks.
Good luck!
