I had a very similar problem. It occurred twice in a week then went away
for two months. When the problem resurfaced, the car would not restart. I
eventually traced it too the fuse box. the fuse box had broken down over
time & left me without enough current @ the coil. Initial insection was
*very* confusing. If I measured voltage at the coil lead it appeared I had
12V. It wasnt until i reconected lead to coil & voltage dropped to 4v that
I went back to fuse box,bypassed ignition fuse with in line fuse & cured
problem.
