Shift Rod Bushing P/N
This is the data I dug out 'o the attic last nite...
P/N 803-711-279-E
List Price $2.64 (i.e. Retail)
This was in April of '92, so the part may be NLA; however,
the Audi parts warehouse may still have some even though
the above P/N is not on the 'fiche anymore.
By the way, regardless of which parts you end up buying,
I'll tell you that replacing the rod is one of those jobs that
looks easy (and should be) but isn't. The new bushings
will be MUCH tighter than the old ones. When I replaced
mine, the old rod had one bushing which was still "attached".
I pulled the rod off easily enough and put new busings in
both ends. I then proceeded to spend 2+ hours inventing new
curse phrases and trying every way I could to push the damn
ends of the rod onto the knobs. As you know, access to that
areas is restricted and the new bushings were TIGHT as hell.
It helps if the car is on ramps/stands because I remember that
one end was easier to get at from beneath.
Hope all this helps. At least you still have first and second gears.
I got stuck with only third and fourth - which makes for interesting
driving...
