MC is just shorthand for master cylinder. My brake woes
started in June when I pulled the ur-Q out of winter storage
at the old house to drive it up to the new place and found
that it had no brakes. Bummer. Never had any problems
before except pads & rotors and one pressure accumulator.
Everything worked great when I parked it last fall. I bled
the brakes, no help. Then I decided to replace the MC
and the brake pressure regulator (had been seeping
fluid VERY slowly since new in '85) to try to resolve
the serious lack of brakes. This led to the present issue
of not being able to locate the correct MC for this car.
I installed a used MC and that has solved the problem
totally. I still want to replace the used one with a new
one, but I cannot find the correct part. Either the MC
is too large in diam to fit the brake servo (booster)
or the fittings for the fluid tank don't match up. Oh well,
at least the brakes are working now. The search for
the correct MC continues.
Anyone know of a source to have calipers and MCs rebuilt?
I've got some old ones that I want to prepare as spares.....
TIA,
-glen
