Lost coolant goes..!?!?! GT/4KS

Since I can't get to the mechanic until sometime Monday morning I thought
I'd give you guys a chance to solve this.....

I drove from Portland to the coast on Friday, (approx. 100 miles) and
parked the car in a hotel parking lot. When I walked past the car on
Sat. morning, I noticed that there was a wet puddle underneath the front
of the car. (The '85 GT that is)

Further inspection revealed that the coolant expansion tank was empty,
there are no broken or cracked hoses that I can find, and the part that
bothers me the most, it _looks_ like the drips were seeping out between
the oil pan and the bottom of the engine block.

Does this sound like a blown head gasket? Or is there a way for the
water pump (or seal) to fail and cause these symptoms?

An added note, is that I filled the tank back up with water and drove the
car home today; everything acted just fine. The car still runs like a
top, the engine and oil temp gauges sat exactly where they have since I
bought the car, and I had plenty of power (for a NA 2.2l engine ;) )

I'm completely stymied folks......in fact I'll offer an incentive. I'll
buy a six-pack of your favorite liquid refreshment for the person who
solves the problem with the right answer. And no, selling the car, or
replacing the engine are not considered valid answers! <grin>

TIA all.
