5000 CSTQ clutch problems

"Hi my name is Paul and I own an Audi."
"Hi Paul, welcome to this meeting of AA (Audis Anonymous), what Audi do you
own, and what is your story?...."

OK, it's an '86 5000 CSTQ.
It would appear that my 6 week allotment of carefree motoring has expired
and it is time for my periodic penance.

My clutch has been reading the notes on the list and decided it would be fun
to try the "sink to the floor but don't return" trick. Needless to say, I am
less than amused.

Could some one who has recently fixed this give me all the gory details?
Master cylinder? Slave cylinder? Or should I just change both while it's in
pieces?
How difficult is this stuff to get at? I must confess that I have not looked
at either the car or the Bentley yet, as this only just happened.
And what's all this about power bleeding? Is that like power walking? Do I
have to bleed the clutch with weights strapped to my wrists and ankles?

Normally I would want to do this work myself ("shop" is definitely a four
letter word) but I am a bit pushed for time at the moment. Does anyone know
of a competent, trustworthy mechanic in the Marlborough MA area? (I know there
is some one on the list that lives in this area). Any experiences with
Pleasant Street Garage (always have Audi/VW/MB in their yard), Foreign motors on
Farm Road (near the airport), or that little place in Southborough that
specializes in money pits (Saab/Audi/Alpha). Sorry to all of you in
California and NY/NJ for being so parochial.

In the mean time, it's back to the low tech solution of a piece of string
tied to the pedal.

Thanks,
	Paul
